Prison Ministry Update October 30, 2011
Posted by dialogueforchange in Prison Ministry.trackback
Years ago I served for awhile as a volunteer chaplain for the Multnomah County (OR) Sheriff’s Department, working with inmates. Over the last few months I’ve become involved again, this time working with spiritual growth programs and ministries that “serve” inmates and offenders within the Oregon Department of Corrections. That involvement has taken two forms -
First, as co-founder and team leader of PARTNERS IN TRANSFORMATION, a nonprofit supporting the THRESHOLD PROGRAM. Threshold is a spiritual growth program, endorsed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, that works to prepare inmates and offenders for release and reentry into our communities as productive, spiritually motivated individuals.
The other endeavor is NEW THOUGHT NEXUS, a ministry that works to bring services and classes to inmates by providing the opportunity and the means for individuals, ministry teams and faith-based organizations/churches to “minister” inside correctional facilities (we used to call them prisons).
More later ….
